BENGALURU: Voting for 14 Lok Sabha seats of Karnataka, including constituencies in the state capital Bengaluru, began at 7 am on Thursday.

In some parts of Bengaluru, voters queued up as soon as the polling booths opened as they wanted to exercise their franchise before the mercury levels rise.

It is a high-stake battle for ruling Congress and JD(S) parties as they have forged an alliance for the first time in three decades.

An estimated 2.67 crore voters will decide the fate of 241 candidates in the fray. Voters will also decide the political fortunes of former prime minister HD Devegowda and BJP leader DV Sadananda Gowda among others.

The voting will go on till 6 pm.

The remaining 14 constituencies in the state, mostly in North Karnataka, will go to polls in the next phase on April 23.
