England has not picked uncapped all-rounder Jofra Archer in the preliminary 15-man World Cup squad, but has included him for the warm-up games against Pakistan and Ireland.

Jofra Archer
London:
Archer’s ability to bowl at more than 90 miles per hour and his lower-order power-hitting skills have earned him a number of high-profile admirers. “The selection panel has been impressed with Archer’s performances in domestic and franchise cricket. He is a very talented and exciting cricketer,” said national selector Ed Smith.
England plays Ireland in a One-Day International on May 3 before a five-match ODI series and a Twenty20 against Pakistan. “In line with ICC (International Cricket Council) regulations, we have to name a preliminary squad of 15 before April 23,” added Smith.
“However, all 17 players named for the ODIs against Pakistan can stake a claim to be in the final 15-man squad, which will be finalised at the end of that series.” Fast bowler Chris Jordan could also make a comeback to the ODI setup, having played his last 50-overs game for England in September 2016.
“Jordan has continued to develop as a cricketer. He fully deserves his return to the ODI squad,” said Smith. “With regard to resting players, we are conscious of managing their workloads leading into such an important summer. That was also a factor in the way we selected these squads.”
WC squad: Eoin Morgan (captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood.
Pakistan series squad: Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Chris Jordan, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood.
Barbados-born Archer could get a WC call-up if he impresses in the warm-up matches as changes can be made to the squad until May 23, seven days prior to the tournament opener. Joe Denly, whose last ODI appearance came in October 2009, found a place in the WC group as a back-up slow bowling all-rounder. But he could be among the pool of players, including Liam Plunkett and Tom Curran, who will feel the pressure if Archer performs well over the next few weeks.
