AHMEDABAD: A 50-year-old man was bludgeoned to death by a 23-year-old man in Sanjaynagar slums in Ghatlodia area of the city on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Baldev Rupa Parmar, who works as a sanitation worker, whereas the accused is also a sanitation worker, Prafull Suresh Solanki, said ACP of A division in city police, M A Patel.
“The incident occurred when a group of people of the same community gathered at gate number-3 of Sanjaynagar to resolve a dispute over an elopement case. Parmar’s minor niece had allegedly eloped with Solanki’s cousin, Umesh around a month ago. Parmar’s family also filed an FIR against Umesh under charges of elopement and POCSO (Protection of Children against Sexual Offences) act,” Patel said.
“Later, the community members decided to resolve the issue through discussion. They gathered to discuss the issues on Wednesday evening. Parmar wanted to pursue the case legally. This did not agree with Solanki who first began abusing Parmar and later hit him several times on his forehead and face with a stone,” said Patel.
Some of the community members tried to rescue Parmar but by then he fell unconscious and succumbed to the injuries, said police.
Ghatlodia police have booked Solanki for murder.
