more-in

Noticing an increase in the number of unclaimed Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) consignments in trains, the Railway Protection Force, Excise and Government Railway Police (GRP) have increased the frequency of surprise inspections in local and long-distance trains.

Joint squads and officials in plain-clothes are now part of the surprise checks being conducted in view of the Lok Sabha elections. GRP squads have been asked to keep an eye on all suspicious consignments on railway stations’ premises. Premises of parcel service offices too will be under surveillance.

The local police will also step up day-and-night patrol in all vulnerable areas. There will be separate arrangements for monitoring tribal settlements and visitors to such locations, they said. There is also move to post shadow squads around Bevco outlets to track persons buying excess liquor and trying to sell it at a higher margin. The Static Surveillance team appointed by election authorities too will keep an eye on attempts to smuggle IMFL.
