Alleged incident took place at Sudar Hospital junction in Pulikeshi Nagar

The Pulikeshi Nagar police have arrested a 23-year-old goods autorickshaw driver for allegedly assaulting a traffic police constable at a busy junction on Monday evening. The alleged incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. at Sudar Hospital junction in Pulikeshi Nagar after traffic movement was disrupted at the railway bridge junction.

Traffic Constable Yenkanna Biradar was busy clearing the road when the accused, Imran Sheikh, drove his vehicle over him, said a police officer. The constable immediately took him to task and asked him to follow road rules. In response, Sheikh, a resident of K.G. Halli, stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road, hurled abuses at Biradar and attacked him.

“He grabbed me by my collar and started punching me on my face,” Biradar told the police. A colleague, Basavaraj Golageri, who was on duty nearby heard the commotion and rushed to his help. He, along with a few passers-by, caught hold of Sheikh and took him to the police station.

He has been charged with assault and obstructing a government servant from discharging his duties. He was remanded in judicial custody.
