BICHOLIM: Bicholim town and surrounding areas faced acute water shortage on Tuesday after the main water pipeline burst.

The main pipeline behind Zantye College, Bicholim, ruptured owing to heavy pressure because of which hundreds of litres of water was wasted. This led to Bicholim town running dry throughout the day. Locals were left in the lurch with some having to resort to drawing water from old wells.

Areas like Sonar Peth, Bordem, Bhaili Peth, Pazwada, Bandarwada, Gaonkarwada, Vathadev, Sarvan, housing board, and Karapur were badly hit. “We had to face inconvenience due to the shortage of water throughout the day as it affected our daily routine,” said homemaker Gauri Chodankar.

PWD assistant engineer Vasudev Parab confirmed that the water shortage was due to the burst pipeline behind Zantye college. “Repair works are being carried out on a war footing,” he said, expecting water supply to resume late Tuesday evening.
