As summer is reaching its peak, water bodies in the city are drying up swiftly. As a result, fishes in different lakes of the city are dying in large numbers. Residents living around Pipliyapala Lake reported sighting hundreds of dead fish on the dried lake bed of the lake. According to the residents, around thousand fishes were killed as water level of the lake dropped to 0-feet mark on Tuesday.
The death of fishes also exposed negligence of Indore Municipal Corporation officials who did not take adequate measures to save fishes. Local residents claim that IMC used to get water from Bilawali channel every year for maintaining the water level of the lake but after the boat club is closed, IMC officials did not look after the maintenance of the lake. Meanwhile, IMC water works committee incharge Balram Verma said, “Due to increasing heat, water levels of the lakes have dropped. We will take all necessary steps to save the fishes and will inspect other lakes as well”.
