The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notices to Lakshmi Aruna, wife of former Minister G. Janardhana Reddy, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a petition challenging the trial court’s order discharging her from a mining case against her husband and other accused persons.

Justice Aravind Kumar passed the order on a petition filed by Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya.

The petitioner had questioned the October 8, 2015 order passed by the Special Court for CBI cases in discharging Ms. Lakshmi Aruna in the case related to illegal mining and export of iron ore by Associated Mining Company, of which she was one of the directors.

It has been claimed in the petition that the special court did not properly consider the materials against her while allowing her plea for discharge from the case, which was registered against her and other persons by the CBI based on the apex court’s direction in 2011. The CBI had filed charge sheet against her, Mr. Reddy and others in May 2012.
