SOMERSET — Dighton-Rehoboth struck for 16 hits and got a strong pitching performance from Eliana Raposo in Wednesday's 9-1 South Coast Conference softball victory over Somerset Berkley.

“We just have to come together,” said Somerset Berkley coach Sally McKinnon, whose team fell to 1-4.

After falling behind in the first inning, Somerset Berkley could not recover.

Raiders starting pitcher, Mary Kate Moreau allowed three runs on four hits to start the game before Laney Martin came in to relieve and struck out three to end the inning, keeping it a 3-0 game.

D-R got to Martin for two runs in the third inning to increase the lead to 5-0.

Martin went seven innings, allowed 12 hits, two walks and struck out seven. She walked two.

“She got ahead of the count on a lot of batters,” says McKinnon.

Raposo went six innings, scattering eight hits and eight strikeouts.

In the bottom of the third, the Raiders loaded the bases and scored their lone run when Emily Pacheco's walk brought home a run.

“We had a lot of opportunities offensively and now it’s going to be working on being able to capitalize on that,” says McKinnon.

A bright spot for Somerset Berkley was leadoff batter, Julyanne Pacheco, who finished with three hits, including one double, in her four at-bats.

“Julyanna had some nice hits,” says McKinnon.

Lauren Fitzpatrick and Brianna Soares finished with two hits for the Raiders.

The game got away from SB in the sixth inning when D-R capitalized on a couple of errors on defense, and a double by Kyleigh McGreevy to score three more runs to make it 8-1.

“We need to execute on defense and we need to get the timely hit to score runs,” said McKinnon.

Dighton-Rehoboth improved to 4-1.
