NEW DELHI: A woman, who strangled her seven-year-old nephew in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera, was arrested on Friday. The child’s mother and other relatives were present in the house when the incident happened.
DCP (southwest) Devender Arya said the incident happened on Friday evening. The child, Shivam, was staying with his mother Soni at his uncle’s house in Kapashera. His aunt Priyanka also lived there.

As per the family, on the night of the incident, Shivam was watching television in the room with Priyanka while his mother was in the kitchen. Suddenly, Priyanka locked the door from inside and Shivam started crying.

His mother rushed to the door but could not open it. Other members of the family also tried to open it and called Priyanka, but in vain.

One of the family members managed to enter the room after bending the grille of the door and found the boy lying unconscious on the floor and Priyanka standing next to him. She later told the family that she murdered him because she believed his mother wanted to harm the family.

After a preliminary inquiry, the woman was taken into custody and charged for murder. It is suspected that she was suffering from hallucinations and police are awaiting her medical reports to check if she was under the influence of any drugs.
