Mumbai: An FIR was lodged against United Phosphorus Limited (UPL) on Sunday for preparing illegal campaign material for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Khar area of North-West Mumbai on April 9. Last week, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary and spokesperson United Phosphorus Limited accused the BJP over its alleged collaboration with the company.

On April 9, MPCC led by Sachin Sawant raided the office along with Election Commission (EC) officials, where they seized illegal material worth Rs 6 crore after which the office of UPL was sealed.
An MPCC spokesperson said, “Electronic gadgets in the form of a greeting card, which played the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had pictures of the surgical strike which has been prohibited for campaigning by the EC were found.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off and a case was registered against the UPL chief.” The seized material was worth Rs 6 crore. The police said no arrest has been made in the case, so far.
