Mining company sacks worker after discovering the employee 'made $10MILLION in concealed payments to an ''invalid supplier'' over eight years'

An employee at a mining contractor has been fired after allegedly swindling $10million from the company. 

Ausdrill, in Western Australia, discovered millions of dollars in secret payments had been authorised and made to an 'unrelated invalid supplier' over an eight-year period.

The company hired an auditing firm to conduct an investigation and discovered the activity had been fraudulent.

Ausdrill fired the employee after the investigation and reported the findings to the police.    

Managing director Mark Norwell said in a statement the behaviour is inconsistent with the company's principles and will not be tolerated.

Ausdrill said the situation would have no affect on the company's financial year.

'I am satisfied that immediate action has been taken upon becoming aware of the situation,' Norwell said.  

'We are now completing a comprehensive review to understand how this long-term sophisticated fraud occurred and how we can further enhance Ausdrill’s systems and controls.'
