Height of cofferdam must come up to 35 metres by June, he says

Irrigation officials and contractors of the Polavaram project have been given 60 days to send the Godavari water by gravity into the right and the left canals by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at his residence in Undavalli on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister, who conducted virtual inspection and reviewed the progress, raised many eyebrows when he called for the meeting. He said the entire administration could not be put on hold till the election results were announced as there was still a lot of time for that.

He said it was very important for him to resolve the problems of the people and walk the path of development.

Virtual inspection

He conducted the 90th virtual inspection from the Praja Vedika Hall. He expressed regret at the slowing down of work in March and April for about 45 days and asked the contractors to make up the delay.

The amount the Centre was due to Andhra Pradesh for the work done had gone up to ₹4,508.35 crore, officials told the Chief Minister.

Mr. Naidu said while the height of the cofferdam was 42.5 metres, it should come up to at least 35 metres by June.

The flood at the dam site was likely to reach 5 lakh cusecs by June 20 so work should continue without any break, Mr. Naidu said.

As much as 69% of the project had been completed as on date, officials said. Daily targets for concrete, excavation, housing and R&R were also discussed.

Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Secretary CMO AV Rajamouli, Polavaram R&R Commissioner Rekha Rani and representatives of the contractors were present.
