Lamborghini Aventador Successor Could Feature Three Electric Motors, V12, 1000+ HP

The Aventador has been with us since 2011, with a facelift in 2016, so its successor can’t be that far away – and if the latest reports are accurate, it will be a monster.

Car Magazine reports that Lamborghini’s new top-tier supercar will be powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine just like the current car. It remains to be seen if it will be a development of the current 6.5-liter unit or a new one, but it will certainly pump out more than the 759 hp it currently musters up in the Aventador SVJ.

The Aventador’s successor, though, won’t just feature a V12 ICE. Rumor has is that the front axle will incorporate two electric motors, while a third one will provide additional power to the rear wheels. The new Lamborghini will reportedly house its batteries in its center backbone section and a dual-clutch transmission promises to deliver near-instantaneous shifts. If the V12 is indeed joined by three electric motors, an output of 1000 HP or more shouldn’t be that much of a challenge.

Moreover, Lamborghini’s next+ supercar will allegedly be underpinned by a new carbon fiber monocoque, while it will retain the current four-wheel steering system.

Recently discussing the car, Lamborghini chief technology officer Maurizio Reggiani confirmed that it will have a hybrid powertrain.

“The Aventador replacement will be naturally aspirated and a plug-in hybrid, because this is the best mix of emotion and DNA for Lamborghini. For the moment it is not a problem to be homologated worldwide. For the new Aventador, I am confident we’ll be able to introduce the particulate filters we need for Euro 7 emissions. For these, it is not a question of turbocharging. Instead, we will make the hybrid vehicle emotional, sexy, and what the customer will want to have. This is the challenge,” he said.

It remains to be seen what Lamborghini will call its new model; its styling, though, is said to be influenced by the Terzo Millennio concept.
