With a day left for election, the police have stepped up security in Coimbatore district.
In Coimbatore city limits, 2,500 personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth voting and maintenance of law and order on the poll day. Seven companies of personnel from Tamil Nadu Special Police (TNSP), Indo-Tibetan Boarder Police (ITBP), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Armed Police (SAP) from Kerala will provide armed protection to polling stations. Personnel from the Tamil Nadu Commando Force (TNCF) will provide additional security.
In Coimbatore rural, 1,600 police personnel will provide security cover for polling stations and sensitive places along with seven companies of TNSP, ITBP, CRPF and SAP. TNCF will also add to the security cover.

More than 1,500 police personnel will be deployed for security at polling booths across the Nilgiris, said Nilgiris district superintendent of police D. Shanmuga Priya on Tuesday.
She said that 1,405 district police personnel, one company of CRPF and TNSP will be deployed at 1,610 polling stations across the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency. All the 16 border check-posts and around 240 km of the district border will be secured, she added. The police had registered a total of 154 cases for poll code violations in the Nilgiris.
District Collector J. Innocent Divya said there were a total of 13,65,608 voters in the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency comprising the assembly segments of Udhagamandalam, Coonoor, Gudalur, Avinashi, Mettupalayam and Bhavani Sagar.
Of the total 1,610 polling booths, there will be 24 model polling booths and 12 all-women polling booths, said Ms. Divya. She added that there were a total of 120 “sensitive” polling booths, of which 78 were in the Nilgiris, including one deemed to be “critical.”
Tiruppur
A total of 741 personnel from central and state forces will be deployed across Tiruppur ahead of the polling day, K.S. Palanisamy, District Collector and District Election Officer (DEO), said on Monday.
CCTV cameras have been installed in 560 polling booths and micro-observers have been posted at 325 booths in Tiruppur parliamentary constituency, which has 1,704 booths in total. Global Positioning System devices will be installed in 220 vehicles transporting the EVMs to the booths. The vehicles will be monitored from the control room at the district election office, the release said. Female voters who are pregnant, mothers with infants, differently abled voters and senior citizens will be given preference on the day of polling, Mr. Palanisamy said.
Cash to the tune of ₹ 1,66,89,680 were seized by officials from flying squad and static surveillance teams in the eight assembly constituencies of Tiruppur district from April 10 to 14.
A total of 9,377 items including posters and banners that violated MCC were removed from public places, while 4,339 such items were removed from private locations, the DEO said.
