Polling deferred in Tripura seat over law and order

NEW DELHI: The polling in East Tripura constituency has been deferred from April 18 to April 23 due to the prevailing law and order situation in the parliamentary constituency, the EC said on Tuesday.
The poll panel said it had received reports from the chief electoral officer and special police observer which said the prevailing law and order situation in the constituency is “not conducive to holding free and fair poll” on April 18 as earlier scheduled.
It said the returning officer for the constituency had also expressed serious apprehensions, based on ground and intelligence reports, that miscreants may try to thwart the polling process in the constituency and sought deployment of additional central police forces.
