Ludhiana: The Ludhiana municipal corporation has warned building inspectors against sheltering encroachers by issuing only challans for not constructing buildings as per rules. The building inspectors were told to demolish the illegal part of building immediately.
Issuing a letter to building inspectors, assistant town planner S S Bindra cleared that it is their responsibility to check the illegal construction of buildings.
A city-based RTI activist Rohit Sabharwal had made a complaint against MC officials, accusing them of giving shelter to encroachers by issuing only challans. He had alleged that MC officials fulfil the formality by issuing challans to defaulters, but take no action against them. In the meantime, the illegal structures get completed.
Acting on his complaint, Bindra has issued warning to the building inspectors that they should keep an eye on the ongoing construction work in their respective areas and if they issue challans for illegal construction and find that illegal part cannot be regularized, then it should be demolished immediately.
Bindra said building inspectors are responsible for curbing illegal structures in their areas as they have the powers to issue demolition orders. He said in case they will not take action, then they will have to face action.
