'She's just an old lady': Woman's vicious attack caught on camera

An elderly woman clung to her walker as she was viciously attacked near a Geelong shopping centre.

Police have arrested a 23-year-old Geelong East woman after appalling video emerged of her punching and kicking the vulnerable lady outside the Moorabool Street shopping centre about 1pm on Tuesday.

A video uploaded to Facebook shows the Geelong East woman yelling and taunting her victim, asking the elderly lady ‘‘do you want to start me’’.

Footage shows the attacker shoving the victim into a wall and pushing her down onto the ground.

The 23-year-old can also be seen punching the woman in the face and kicking her while she is lying on the floor.

Witnesses to the attack have said that the altercation started after the younger woman asked the vulnerable lady to stop singing on the street. Police are yet to confirm that.

The video has had more than 50,000 views on Facebook and 693 shares, with witnesses saying they were disgusted by the girl’s actions.

One commenter said that the younger woman was being violent and hostile to people on the street.

‘‘She was just being really aggressive to customers in the shopping centre and then just went up to the older lady and started yelling. It was disgusting,’’ she said.

The 23-year-old woman has been charged with affray, committing an indictable offence whilst on bail, unlawful assault by kicking and unlawful assault.

The Geelong East woman was held in custody overnight and is expected to appear at the Geelong Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
