A 3-year-old boy brought to a private hospital in Aluva on Wednesday with a serious head injury and other bruises and burn marks, made the hospital authorities call in the police when the injuries were not found to be consistent with the description of incidents made by the father of the child.
The Eloor police are investigating the case.
The boy, meanwhile, underwent a brain surgery to stop bleeding in the brain.
He was brought to Rajagiri Hospital in an unconscious condition, said the forensic surgeon, Dr. Jaidev. A detailed examination revealed that there was bleeding in the brain, multiple bruises on the lower limbs and burn marks on the buttocks, suggestive of torture.
The father of the child, a migrant, had told the examining doctor that the body had fallen from the stairs in the morning.
However, there were other injuries on the body of the child that did not match the description of the accident, said the doctor. The child was brought to the hospital in the afternoon and was taken for neurosurgery later at night.
