Facelifted 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 & GLC 63 Coupe Promise Sharper Handling

Mercedes has unveiled the facelifted GLC 63 lineup ahead of the New York Auto Show.

Following in the footsteps of the standard models, the crossovers have been equipped with a modestly revised exterior that includes new head- and taillights. Designers also installed larger trapezoidal tailpipes and newly optional 21-inch wheels.

Moving into cabin, drivers will find a new AMG steering wheel with Touch Control buttons. The crossovers also have the new MBUX infotainment system as well as updated upholstery. Other highlights include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, sports seats and aluminum trim.

The GLC 63 is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. It is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission which sends power to an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This enables the crossover to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Americans will apparently miss out on the GLC 63 S but, in Europe, it has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the extra power, the dash from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is cut to 3.8 seconds and the top speed increases to 174 mph (280 km/h).

Both engines carryover to the Coupe and all of their performance specifications remain the same. As a result, the GLC 63 Coupe has 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque and can run from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds. Likewise, the GLC 63 S Coupe – which the US gets – has 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and top out at 174 mph (280 km/h).

Additional changes are limited, but all models now come standard with an electronically controlled locking differential. The crossovers also gains a new “Slippery” drive mode and an AMG Dynamics system with Basic, Advanced, Pro and Master (S only) settings.

The facelifted GLC 63 lineup will begin arriving at US dealerships late this year and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
