Woman raped by husband’s cousin

Nagpur: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her husband’s cousin who had come to stay with them after his health started degrading. The incident took place on April 5 while she was alone at home in Gittikhadan. Police have registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation against the accused on Monday after the survivor approached Gittikhadan police station.
The accused has been booked under section 376, 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) but is currently absconding.

According to police, Seema (name changed) used to live with her husband Rahul (name changed) and three children in Gittikhadan. In 2016, Seema’s husband, who works in furniture industry, called his 40-year-old cousin Goparam (name changed) from Surat and offered him a job in the city. Goparam moved to city and started working at a furniture industry in Sonegaon.

Few days back, Goparam called Rahul complaining about stomach pain. Following which Rahul took him to a hospital and after check-up he took him to his house for taking rest. On April 4, Goparam again complained about stomach ache and Rahul again took him to a hospital for check-up. As Goparam was continuously growing through the pain he asked Rahul to take him to Surat in Gujarat. The duo decided to go to Surat next day.

But on April 5 Rahul had to attend office due to some urgent work while Goparam was resting at his house. Goparam called Seema and asked her to bring balm for his pain. As soon as Seema entered the room, Goparam grabbed her mouth and allegedly exploited her before threatening her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

After some time, Rahul returned home but Seema did not tell him anything. Rahul then took Goparam to Surat. When Rahul returned to city Seema shared her ordeal. The couple then consulted other family members as they were afraid of embarrassment but later decided to approach cops.

It is learnt that police will now be sending a team to Surat to nab the accused.
