Nagpur: Future Group founder and CEO Kishore Biyani said the trend has reversed and Indians now prefer to work in their own country rather than going abroad. “A reverse trend is going on and people are coming back to India,” Biyani said while interacting with media on the sidelines of third convocation of Indian Institute of Management-Nagpur (IIM-N).
When pointed out the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) data tells a different story, the retail baron said there are multiple disciplines and multiple options available across sectors. “Every discipline has its own requirement,” he said.
Biyani was flanked by IIM-N board of governors chairman CP Gurnani and IIM-N director LS Murthy.
Gurnani said efforts were on to bring overseas recruiters for campus placements at IIM-N. So far, foreign job destinations have eluded students of IIM-N, which was set up in 2015. “Yet, it is good for students to work in India because they get a variety of experience. They say if you can drive in India, you can drive anywhere in the world,” he said.
Murthy said they have been getting requests from overseas companies for summer internships. “We have a career development services cell which takes care of inviting recruiters. Ultimately, it also depends on students where they want to work after their degree,” he said.
Gurnani said the placements records demonstrate IIM-N students are being preferred by a wide range of sectors like manufacturing, financial and banking services, analytics, information technology. “I consider IIM-N as a start-up and students here are being nurtured excellently well,” he said.
Earlier, in his convocation address, Biyani said at Future Group they believe that solution to every challenge can come through understanding the country and people better. “We believe in respect and humility in dealing with everyone within and outside the organization. We believe in valuing and nurturing relationships. Relationships that we built with customers and communities we work in and also with our suppliers, partners, their employees and everyone in our ecosystem. Nurturing relationships and trusting people is the secret to grow faster and better,” he said.
Biyani also said that Dhirubhai Ambani and Verghese Kurien inspired him when he started off his career.
Exhorting students to rewrite rules, he said, “Human abilities are growing exponentially with new technologies. The old era of working with scarcity is over. We are now in the world of limitless possibilities. It is in our interest to be agile, to be adaptive, to embrace change and to rewrite rules,” he said.
