Patiala: Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra joins Congress again

PATIALA: After having his journey in three political parties, a former block Samiti chairman Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra joined the Congress again on Tuesday in the presence of Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and others a month ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

Harmeet Pathanmajra remained a Congress worker along with his father Hardev Singh up till 1994 who also had remained a Zila Parishad Member and a former Congress Sarpanch. Harmeet along with his father jumped into Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in 1994. Later in 2008 Harmeet was appointed as Youth Akali Dal leader and was elected as Chairman Block Samiti Bhunarhedi.

Seeking a ticket from Sanaur assembly segment Harmeet joined Congress in 2017 but the party chose HS Harry Mann as its candidate from Sanaur in the state assembly elections. Angry Harmeet left the party soon and decided to contest as an independent candidate from Sanaur and thus he managed to score around 12993 votes. Congress contestant Harry Mann lost the seat to SAD’s HS Chandumajra who is also the son of Anandpur Sahib SAD (B) Member Parliament and now again candidate PS Chandumajra.

Harmeet Pathanmajra however recently joined the Punjabi Ekta Party floated by Sukhpal Singh Khaira but remained unhappy.

“I had joined the Congress again as there is no secure future in other small political parties or factions. I had recently joined the Punjabi Ekta Party but was not happy with the party’s atmosphere and behaviour of the leaders. The dictatorship in such factions or small political parties is much more than in the larger parties. My grandfather was also Congress leader while my father Hardev Singh was Zila Parishad member”, said Harmeet.
