District machinery gears up for Lok Sabha polls

MYSURU: Deputy commissioner Abhiram G Sankar on Monday said that the district administration has made all the necessary arrangements for the polls to be held on Thursday.
"As per the election commission directions, Section 144 will be imposed from 6pm on April 16 in the district. Sale of liquor will be banned from 6pm on April 16 till midnight of April 18. Fairs and utsavs on April 18 have been postponed. As polling will be held on April 23 in Kerala, sale of liquor has been banned in 5km radius in the border areas of Mysuru district," Sankar said.
The DC, who is also the district election officer, said the election officers will also check marriage halls, community halls and lodges to collect information regarding the people who are outsiders in the constituency. "We have already issued notices to hotel owners. This is to prevent double voting. Thorough checking of vehicles will also be conducted at border check-posts," he said.
He said EVMs will be stored in Maharani Commerce College building in Paduvarahalli. Three-tier security has been arranged. The building will be guarded by central armed police force (CAPF), city armed reserve (CAR) and city police. "Polling will be held from 7am to 6pm on April 18," he said.
ZP CEO and SVEEP nodal officer K Jyothi said 2,921 vehicles to ferry voters, 614 wheelchairs have been arranged at polling stations. In Mysuru city, 170 vehicles have been arranged.
MCC commissioner Shilpa Nag, SP Amit Singh and city police commissioner K T Balakrishna were present.
