Devotees will not be allowed for the darshan of Lord Varahaswamy for five days from April 23 in connection with Ashtabandana Balalaya Maha Samprokshanam that will off to a spiritual start with ‘ankurarpanam’ the previous day.
The Maha Samprokshanam ritual is being carried out at the temple after a gap of 37 years. The last time it was observed was in 1982.
The TTD is also contemplating taking measures required for the gold plating of ‘Vimanam gopuram’ situated above the sanctum sanctorum. The TTD board has already approved works relating to the gold plating.
As part of the festivities, Kalakarshanam will be observed on April 23 followed by special rituals at Yagasala on April 24, Ashtasbandanam to the granite pedestal (on which the main idol rests) on April 25 and Maha Samprokshanam on April 27. Some 14 ‘homa gundams’ will be put up at the temple which will be attended by about 20 ritwiks.
In connection with Maha Samprokshanam, devotees will also be temporarily deprived of the darshan of Lord Venkateswara for five hours between 11 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. on April 27. Darshan at Sri Varahaswamy temple will resume after 3 p.m. after Maha Samprokshanam on the concluding day on April 27.
