BENGALURU: Second-year PU students are doing better and in class. In all, 2,28,124 — or 68% — of the 4,14,587 students who cleared the March examinations have done so with first class. Of them, 54,823 scored distinction (85% marks or more).
The overall pass percentage was 61.73 — the best in six years — and far better than the previous year’s 59.56. Some 6,71,653 students appeared
for the exam, and the results were announced on Monday.
Science topped the pass percentage with 66.58, commerce closely behind at 66.39% and the humanities a distant third at 50.53%.
Udupi district topped the list achieving 92.2% passes, followed by Dakshina Kannada at 90.91%. Chitradurga was at the bottom with 51.42% passes. It needs no reiteration, but here it is: 68.24% of girls cleared the examination against 55.29% boys. Besides, rural students outperformed their urban counterparts — 62.88% to 61.38%.
Mathematics saw maximum centums
ThThe exams were held from March 1 to 18, earlier than usual because of the Lok Sabha elections. Evaluation of answerscripts papers started on March 25.
SR Umashankar, principal secretary, primary and secondary education department, said they have announced results in less than a month of the exams and credited technology, among other factors, for the feat. “We’ve introduced a system that allows evaluators to enter marks on the main feeder. This saves time. The results have been announced well before CET,” he said.
This year saw 11,651 centums, 16% lesser than the 13,899 centums of the previous year. Mathematics had the most centums with 2,447 scoring full marks, accountancy had 1,939; computer science 1,546; Sanskrit 852; Kannada 161; Hindi 35; and one in Malayalam. None secured the perfect score in English language.
