Hubballi: Kundgol taluk administration has begun repair work on the crumbling building where it has set up a polling booth at Hirehakuni village of Kundgol taluk.
People of Hireharkuni village taluk had expressed apprehensions as two years ago the zilla panchayat had ordered that the building housing the government higher primary school be demolished. So they were baffled when booth no. 134 was set up in the same building.
On Tuesday, the taluk administration began repair work of two classrooms.
Basavaraj Kattimani, vice president, gram panchayat, lashed out at the taluk administration for choosing the dilapidated building.
Officers said that they can’t change the booth due to technical reasons and promised to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the voters.
Speaking to TOI, Kundgol tahsildar Shivanand Sagar said, “We have employed workers to repair the roof and other portions of the room where the booth has been set up and its adjacent room which, too, is in a very sorry state. We have fixed the windows and doors and taken all possible measures to ensure the safety of voters.”
