Notorious gangster Ujjwal Singh surrenders in Patna court

PATNA: A notorious gangster Avnish alias Ujjwal Singh, who was wanted in connection with the murder of a police constable Mukesh Singh in Patna about four months ago, surrendered before a local court on Monday.
Ujjwal, a native of Naubatpur in Patna rural, had gone into hiding ever since his name figured in the killing of the constable on NH-31 near Patna Central School under Kankarbagh police station area in Patna on December 3 last year.
Ujjwal, along with his associates had attacked a police team when the latter had gone to conduct a raid in the locality. A member of the gang led by Muchkund, Ujjwal has been accused of demanding huge extortion money from the traders of Bihta and Naubatpur areas. In addition, he was involved in the murder of one Vishal Bhaskar alias Shibu at Brahmasthani village under Janipur police station area on November 13 last year.
A senior police officer said at least six cases related to extortion and indiscriminate firing were lodged against Ujjwal with Khagaul, Janipur and Bihta police stations. The police officer also added that traders dealing in furniture were on the target of Muchkund gang. In addition, he had gunned down one Vipul Sharma near a reputed public school on Khagaul-Saguna Mor road under Khagaul police station area on October 9, 2018.
Separate police teams were earlier sent to different places outside the state to trace Ujjwal, who had escaped from Patna soon after the killing of the police constable. He was hiding in Bhojpur for quite sometime and surrendered in the court on Monday, police said.
The kingpin of the gang, Muchkund, was earlier killed in an encounter with police near Rupaspur on the outskirts of the state capital for his involvement in constable Mukesh Singh murder case.
