MUZAFFARPUR: A stray leopard was killed on Monday by irate villagers after it attacked and injured at least nine persons at Chichari village under Katra police station.
"On Monday morning villagers came out in large numbers after 15 people were attacked by the leopard. They gheraoed the animal, and hurled stones at it, before beating it to death," a local said. On getting information, forest department officials along with local police officers reached the village.
The injured were rushed to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Those with minor injuries were released after first aid, while two of them are said to be critically inured and battling for their lives.
Muzaffarpur DFO also said that the leopard had injured nine persons. He said the wild animal had probably strayed into the village from Nepal side, which is hardly 60km away from the spot.
“The leopard’s body has been sent to the vetrinary hospital for postmortem. The leopard was about 4 years old,” said the forest official.
