Reported cases of measles have shot up 300 percent in 2019 compared to this time last year, according to the World Health Organization.????The United Nations’ agency says measles is one of the most contagious diseases…????...which is not only potentially fatal but has also been known to lead to lifelong disabilities.????WHO says 110,000 people died from measles in 2017.

????According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two doses of the MMR vaccines are 97 percent effective in preventing measles -- while one dose is roughly 93% effective.????But WHO also said that outbreaks have been reported in countries with high vaccination rates like the U.S. and Israel -- not just in places with a lack of access.????Last year, WHO said “vaccine hesitancy” was one of the world’s top public health threats…????...as individuals refused to have themselves or their children vaccinated.????The CDC reported earlier this month over 555 cases of the measles in 20 states…????...which is the highest number of cases reported in the U.S. since the disease was declared eliminated from the country in 2000.
