Gurgaon: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Monday booked six persons for allegedly duping two flat buyers of Rs 11 lakh.
In the first week of January, two brothers, Sandeep and Ashok Sharma, were contacted by a person who claimed to have called from the office of one A-Plus realtor in Sector 49, according to the complaint. The caller allegedly offered flats to them in Andour Heights in Sector 71, under “management quota”. After the call, the brothers went to the mentioned office on January 7.
“Inside the office, we met one Abhishek and one Anil Kothari who said they were partners of A-Plus realtor. They claimed to be the authorised agents for sale of flats in Andour heights and offered them to us under management quota,” the victim told police.
He added, “We gave them Rs 11 lakh via two cheques worth Rs 5.5 lakh each for the booking. They also gave us two post-dated cheques of the same value and said that if the booking does not get confirmed till February 25, we could encash them.”
Interestingly, when Sandeep and Ashok did not get the flats after the deadline, the accused gave them a cheque of Rs 20,000 as interest on the money.
“However, when we deposited the cheques, they bounced. We tried to contact them, but could not. We also visited the office, but it was locked,” the complainant told police.
After a preliminary investigation, an FIR was registered against Abhishek, Anil Kothari and four others under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of IPC at Sector 50 police station on Sunday.
