Hyderabad man requests Sushma Swaraj to provide legal help to mentally ill son jailed in Italy

HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad man has sought the help of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to come to the aid of her mentally ill son who has been put in jail in Italy.
In a letter to Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday, Mohd Abdul Raheem, urged that his son 26-year-old Mohammed Ghouseuddin, be provided legal help and also that he be provided financial help to travel to Italy to bring back his son as he was economically poor.
Abdul Raheem, a resident of Jhinsi Bazar, Golconda said his son Mohammed Ghouseuddin, had a history of mental illnesss for which he was on medication since 2014. Ghouseuddin had completed his engineering in Hyderabad and later went to Italy during October 2016 to pursue master’s in Communication and Computer Networking Engineering from Politecnico di Torino College situated at Corso Duca degli Abruzzi, 24 Torino, 10129, Italy.
Ghouseuddin had visited India for vacation during March 2017 and went back to Italy during April 2017. He once again came home during December 2017 and stayed for nine months because of his health problems. After he went back to Italy to complete his studies in September 2018, he had also taken up a job to meet his expenditure.
According to Abdul Raheem, on March 14, 2019 while he was working at a hotel he was arrested by police and sent to jail following an incident which had led to a commotion. As he was mentally ill, he was admitted to a hospital. He said considering that his son was ill, he would like to travel to Italy and bring him back and sought the help of the government. Social worker Amjed Ullah Khan has also brought the request to the notice of the Indian High Commission in Milan, Italy.
