Plantation in Azossim goes up in flames

PANAJI: The directorate of fire and emergency services spent much of Monday afternoon dousing a large fire that spread fast and wild on a cashew plantation at Azossim.
The fire services spent over five hours fighting the fire and besides using the fire tender at Old Goa, were forced to call in reinforcements from the Panaji headquarters.
Emergency personnel said they have been receiving a large number of dry grass fires which can be attributed to soaring temperatures. The department has estimated the loss at Rs 50,000.
