Carpenters and other tradesman...one prominent local construction company is doing something about it.

And that's our focus today in kezi's "skilled to work" campaign.

Eugene-based chambers construction takes in students as young as 16 into its carpenters 'apprenticeship program."

The three-year program consist of both classroom training and hands on experience.

Students get instruction on 36 different phases of construction.

Once that is complete, apprentices will then graduate to journeyman carpenter.

Starting pay for them is almost 24 dollars an hour.

"it feels pretty good.

A lot of the days i'll look at stuff and i was like, i built that or i helped pour that.

It's a nice feeling" stitch "it is very supporting.

We look up to them, and they're training us, teaching us everything that they know so we can someday be like them and rise to the top of the company potentially."
