HYDERABAD: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by a businessman friend and his mates at Kothapet. Though the alleged incident took place on Saturday night, it came to light on Monday after the victim, a divorcee, filed a complaint with Vanasthalipuram police. A rape case was registered. All the six accused are at large.
Cops said that the friendship between the victim and the 30-year-old businessman started in December 2018 and since then they had become close. The businessman was partying with five of his friends at the residence of one of his friends on April 13 when the victim phoned him, cops said. “The victim was invited by her friend to Kothapet where the party was being held. After she joined them, she was offered beer. She consumed the drink and subsequently, according to the victim, her friend and his associates raped her,’’ inspector A Venkataiah said.
Police are also probing if her drink was spiked before she was gangraped. The woman was warned by the accused against reporting the matter, the inspector said.
Police said that the businessman’s friend, who gave his premises to organise the party, was on a pilgrimage.
The woman approached cops at 2am on Monday. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC. The victim works as an agent in a financial institution.
