Ghaziabad: Two youths riding a scooter were crushed to death by a truck on NH-9 in Dasna area on Monday. The two were on their way to college in Masuri when their scooter skidded on sand lying on the under-construction highway and were hit by the truck, owned by a Bharat Gas agency, from behind. The driver of the truck has been arrested.
Police have identified the youths as Sunny (20) and Virender (21). The two were enrolled in an ITI course in Bhagwati College. Their bodies have been sent for autopsy and the reports are awaited.
Om Prakash Singh, the SHO of Masuri police station, said the accident happened around 11.30am. “Within minutes of getting information, a police team was sent to the spot. The two youths were taken to a nearby private hospital, but were declared dead on arrival,” Singh said. “The scooter the youths were riding had skidded on soil and sand lying on the road because of construction work on the stretch. The truck coming from behind crushed them under its wheels.”
Rekha, an aunt of Sunny, said the youth had been living with her along with his mother and sister ever since his father passed away eight years ago.
“He was very hardworking. Apart from doing his ITI course, he worked with a private company. His sister is a school student,” she added. Rekha said Sunny had left home on Virendar’s scooter around 10am. “We have lodged a complaint against the truck driver,” she said.
On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the truck driver under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. “Police have seized the truck and arrested the driver. He has been identified as Virender Kumar (36), a resident of Bihar. He has been driving the truck for the gas agency since 2015,” the officer said.
