Kadambur police registered a case against the printing press owner and an individual for printing and distributing pamphlets that call for boycotting election by the people living at Malliamman Durgham, a remote tribal hamlet in Kadambur Hills.
The pamphlet that was distributed in Sathyamangalam and Kadambur said that their hamlet does not have road facility and despite repeated petitions to the district administration, no action was taken. Also, in the absence of community certificates, they are unable to receive any benefits from the government. The pamphlet also said that after completing Class 5 in the primary school in their hamlet, students have to reach Kadambur to continue their studies. In the absence of road facility, they cannot go to school. During medical emergencies, patients are carried in cot by the people to reach the hospital at Kempanaickenpalayam. The pamphlet called for boycotting the elections.
The police along with revenue officials held inquiries that revealed that Subramani (52) of the hamlet, who is currently residing at Kalkadambur, has printed the pamphlets without the consent of the people. Based on a complaint from Guthiyalathur Village Administrative Officer Srinivasan, the police registered a case against Subramani and printing press owner Hari (55) of Sathyamangalam.
