Haryana: One booked for illegal mining of soil

AMBALA: The Maheshnagar police have registered a case of illegal mining against a person in Haryana's Ambala district for illegal mining of soil on the bank of Tangri river.


In his complaint, mining officer, Bhupinder Singh stated, “On March 29, our department received a complaint from Vidya Sagar of Khojkipur village about illegal mining of soil from near Tangri river bank in his village. In his complaint, Vidya Sagar, has accused Amit Kumar of the same village of illegal mining of soil day and night from near the river bank. On receiving this complaint, assistant mining officer Sunil Kumar inspected the spot and it is reported that from near the bank of Tangri river 2-3 feet in depth soil was illegally mined in nearly 3 kanal of area. The freshly extracted heaps of soil were also found at the spot. The officer also took photographs of the spot and from the local enquiry it came forward that the illegal mining was being committed by Amit Kumar.”


As per the First Information Report (FIR), after the inspection, the mining department had sent a complaint to Maheshnagar police station by registered post on April 2 and on receiving the complaint on April 15, a case against the accused, Amit Kumar, has been registered under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Regulation of Development) Act, and 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to start the investigation.


SHO Maheshnagar inspector Ajaib Singh said, “ We have registered the case on the recommendation of the mining department and further action would be taken as per facts and law.”
