Properties worth ₹6.2 crore attached

The Enforcement Directorate has attached properties worth ₹6.19 crore of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali and his family members in connection with a terror funding case allegedly involving Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.

The action is based on a chargesheet by the National Investigation Agency against Saeed and others. Watali was involved in fundraising allegedly for terror activities and he also operated as a “financial conduit” for Hurriyat leaders, said the agency. The attached properties are located in Jammu and Kashmir.

NIA investigations revealed that the “secessionists allegedly instigated people, particularly the youth, to organise strikes and anti-India protests in the State.”

They instigated masses to resort to violence, especially stone pelting on security forces. This was “done wilfully to create such circumstances which would arouse disaffection among the people of Jammu and Kashmir towards the Indian government,” alleged the Directorate. The agency had earlier attached a Gurugram-based property worth over ₹1 crore in the case.
