  • A driver was spotted with a tiny marsupial sitting on her lap while on the road
  • A nearby motorist was stunned when he spotted the animal in car, in Adelaide
  • Video was uploaded to Instagram and many users joked about the 'passenger'

A woman has been spotted driving on a busy road in Adelaide with a baby kangaroo sitting on her lap.

The cute marsupial seemed to be enjoying the ride as the female driver waited in traffic at the weekend.

A fellow motorist noticed the unusual passenger through his window and started filming.

'It’s a breach of the road rules to drive with a dog on your lap... but it doesn’t say diddly squat about a kangaroo or wallaby,' the video caption said.

Many users joked about the cheeky Australian passenger.

'It's an unrestrained passenger. Eight demerit points and $510 fine,' one person said.

Another commented: 'It would be great! Pity they literally hang in the back on the roof hangers.'

'Just in case you need to "skip" the queue,' another joked.

A South Australia police spokesperson said: 'A driver may be fined for driving a vehicle with a person or animal on their lap. Total fine (including $60 Victims of Crime levy) is $244.'
