Three men were killed and two others badly injured when a goods carrier autorickshaw collided with a tanker lorry at Koottilangadi, near here, on Tuesday morning.
The victims were identified as S.K. Shabeer Ali, 47, his brother S.K. Sadath, 40, sons of S.K. Nooruddeen, and Saidul Khan, 30, son of Nafeh Khan.
The brothers were from Mandirtala in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, and Saidul from Indra Puri in West Bengal. Nizamuddin and Deepkar Mandal were admitted to Government Medical College Hospital at Manjeri.
All of them were engaged in labour work in different parts of Malappuram.
The accident occurred around 6.30 a.m. in front of a petrol bunk at Keerankundu, Koottilangadi. The tanker was trying to overtake a car when it rammed the goods autorickshaw and hurtled it into the petrol bunk.
The victims were sitting inside the goods carriage space of the autorickshaw along with concrete mixing equipment. They got crushed between the equipment as the side of the rickshaw crashed against the tanker.
Two men died on the spot when the other died on the way to hospital. The bodies were shifted to Government Taluk Hospital here.
