NEW DELHI: When police entered a 22-year-old’s house in south Delhi’s Pilanji village on Sunday morning, they found ‘I love you’ scribbled on a cardboard beside his hanging body.

Neighbours said that the youth, Sunil Singh, used to weep at night for the past three months. On Sunday morning, one of the neighbours noticed that the door was partially open. As he entered he saw Singh’s body hanging from the ceiling fan. He then informed police.

DCP (south) Vijay Kumar said that police received a call at 8am. Cops reached the spot and took Singh to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. An inquest proceeding under Section 174 of the CrPC was initiated.

Singh used to work as a private security guard and lived on a rented room on the second floor. A preliminary probe revealed that a few months ago, he came in contact with a woman and started talking to her. Soon, he apparently fell in love with the woman and he confessed this to his friends.

However, to his shock, Singh discovered that the woman was already married. Since then, Singh could be heard weeping in the night. His condition prompted the neighbours to contact his brother and alert him about Singh’s situation.

Probe revealed that even 12 days ago Singh’s brother Ravi met him. Singh told Ravi that he was feeling depressed due to the woman.

Singh had scribbled a small note on a cardboard, which the cops found. Singh had allegedly taken his life due to the failed relationship.

Singh’s mobile phone was found damaged and police are trying to retrieve the data from the device to ascertain the sequence of events.
