KARUR: Minister for Transport and district secretary of the AIADMK M.R. Vijayabhaskar on Monday made it clear that the AIADMK would end its campaign at the roundabout near the bus stand in the town as per its plan on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the District Election Officer cum Returning Officer of Karur Lok Sabha constituency, T. Anbalagan, Mr. Vijayabhaskar said that the AIADMK had already been granted permission to conclude the campaign at the roundabout. The permission was obtained on Friday itself and it would be wrong to change the time now.
The Minister said he had brought the attention of the DEO on the permission given to the AIADMK for ending the campaign at the roundabout on Karur-Coimbatore road. The DEO had stated that he would take it to the notice of General Observer on the issue. There was no change in the original plan. The AIADMK would conclude the campaign at the roundabout at 5 pm on Tuesday.
A large number of AIADMK, PMK, BJP, DMDK and TMC cadres were present at the Collector Office when the delegation led by Mr. Vijayabaskar met the DEO.
Congress candidate of Karur Lok Sabha constituency S. Jothimani and DMK district secretary (in-charge) V. Senthil Balaji had staged a sit-in-stir at the Revenue Divisional Office on Sunday, accusing the election officials of favouring the ruling AIADMK over allotment of place and time for concluding the campaign. They withdrew the stir at the intervention of the General Observer, who allotted the DMK-Congress alliance time to campaign at the spot between 4 pm and 6 pm. The AIADMK was allotted 1 pm and 3 pm time slot at the roundabout on Tuesday.
