“The upcoming Redmi flagship with Snapdragon 855 is also tipped to feature triple rear cameras”
Xiaomi’s standalone brand Redmi is currently prepping its flagship that will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 and packs triple rear camera setup. Since it is a flagship in 2019, it was unclear if the company would be retaining the 3.5mm or going the wireless way. Clarifying the same, Redmi’s head Lu Weibing in a post on Weibo confirmed the upcoming Redmi flagship would indeed feature the 3.5mm audio jack, which will come as a relief to audiophiles. However, he did not share any other details about the phone.
In line with the Redmi president’s confirmation, an alleged render of the flagship has surfaced online showcasing the 3.5mm audio jack present at the top. The leaked image shows the phone in red colour getting hands-on treatment and also reveals slightly curved edges and narrow bezels. However, what’s surprising is the presence of a cut out at the top for the slider mechanism for the selfie shooter contradicting Lu Weibing’s earlier claims of no pop-up selfie camera, but backed an earlier leaked render. This part, for now, is pretty unclear, so we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt.
Furthermore, reports also suggest the Redmi flagship might pack a 48MP primary camera and a second depth sensor for portrait shots, though there are now rumours of triple rear cameras. It is also said to have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The brand seems to be in no mood to share any details about the phone as it isn’t rushing for its launch anytime soon. The company is currently focussing on selling 10 million units of the recently launched Redmi 7 and Note 7 Pro smartphones in China.
Separately, Redmi is also gearing up to launch the Redmi S3 with 32MP selfie shooter in China pretty soon, as the brand’s head started teasing it on Weibo. The same phone will be launching in India as Redmi Y3 on April 24th. Stay tuned for more updates.
