12 paramilitary companies to be deployed in Goa for polls

Goa police will get 12 companies of paramilitary forces for deployment during the Lok Sabha elections.

One of the companies is already in the state and is being used for area dominance (patrolling), said a police officer.

Each company comprises of 90 personnel, said an officer adding that the remaining 11 are expected to arrive in the state in the next week.

When contacted, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jaspal Singh said, “Six companies will be deployed in North Goa and six in South Goa.”

According to sources, the 12 companies comprise of two from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two from Border Security Force (BSF), seven from Kerala Armed Police

and one from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). A police officer said that police personnel as well as personnel from the paramilitary forces would be deployed wherever there are multiple polling booths.

According to police, vigil is being maintained at the border check posts. Apart from this, police have also identified suspected troublemakers, who could create a law and order situation and threaten or intimidate voters during election. The suspected troublemakers also include those who were earlier involved in electoral offences, informed a police officer. Names of such persons have been referred to district magistrate under the sections of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for executing bond of good behaviour.
