A delegation of CPI(M) leaders headed by party general secretary Sitaram Yechury met Election Commissioner Sunil Arora to protest against “gross irregularities” during the first phase of the Lok Sabha election in West Bengal and Tripura on April 11.
The party has demanded re-poll in 464 polling booths in the Tripura West parliamentary constituency where “elections were completely rigged”.
In a memorandum submitted to the commission, the party said the EC failed to keep its promises on deploying Central forces for security of the booths and the Opposition polling agents. “Even the security of two CPI(M) candidates could not be ensured,” the memorandum says.
The party said its polling agents were not allowed inside the stations. “We have reports that in a large number of booths, the facility for CCTV coverage and live video streaming were disabled to wipe out the evidence of large-scale hooliganism and wrongdoing,” the memorandum says.
In West Bengal, the party has flagged elections in two constituencies, Alipurduar and Coochbehar. Here too, the Central forces were conspicuous by their absence, it said.
The party has also sought a ban on the trailer of the biopic of Trinamool Congress president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
