Indore: The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to change the pattern of examination from 2019-2020 academic year. Students attempting class XII board examination in 2020 will have less syllabus but more challenging examination. The number of objective questions will increase. “About 20 percent of the paper will be objective and this will be a new change for students,” said Pradip Joshi, head of humanities department in a school. There will be 20 objective questions out of total of 35. “Objective questions could be a blend of one-line, one-word answers and some multiple choice questions, as CBSE has only stated objective type in the new pattern,” Joshi said.
Science department head of a school, Harshad Shevgaonkar, said major changes can be seen in physics, which is challenging for many students especially bio-stream students. The number of questions will increase in class XII board examination of 2020. Students will have to answer a total of 37 questions in science subjects. “In 2018-19 exams, students had to attempt 27 questions out of which, 10 were objective type,” Shevgaonkar said. “The increase in objective type questions will help students to prepare for competitive examinations as the pattern is similar,” he added.
New in political science as shared by Joshi
In political science, students will also have a practical examination of 20 marks. Students will be required to make presentation, documentary, field trip or hold mock parliaments. A report prepared on the same will fetch them 10 marks. The report has to be presented in practical examination that will be conducted at the centre as per the new rule. Further, a viva voce would be conducted, which will be of 10 marks.
Reduction in syllabus
Syllabus has been reduced in most subjects by removing a chapter and some topics. “For example, in physics, the last chapter on communication has been removed. Two topics from the chapter on semi-conductors have also been removed,” Shevgaonkar said. Transistors and Logic Gate topics have removed. In Chemistry, Unit of Solid State Chapter has been removed. Group 15 has been removed from P block.
In-depth studies
In order to increase the ability of logical and memory of students attempting class XII board, the board has adopted the new pattern. In such an objective based pattern, students must have in-depth knowledge of subject. Students will have to study every topic thoroughly because an objective question means 100 percent marks or none.
