Rajnandgaon was represented by Raman Singh in Lok Sabha and his son Abhishek won from here in 2014.

One of the 11 parliamentary constituencies in Chhattisgarh, Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls in the second phase of general elections on April 18. The Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency in Chhattisgarh covers more than one districts.

Rajnandgaon is considered a safe seat for the BJP. Except in 2007 by-elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won from the seat since 1999 when Raman Singh won from here for the first time. The state was later carved out of Uttar Pradesh. Raman Singh went on to become Chief Minister of the state and was in power for 15 years. 

His son Abhishek Singh won from Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat in 2014 by defeating Congress' Kamleshwar Verma by 2.37 lakh votes. 

In 2009, BJP's Madhusudan Yadav won from here by defeating Devwrat Singh of the Congress. Singh had won only in 2007 by-election which was held following the disqualification of BJP's Pradeep Gandhi from Lok Sabha. 

Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora won from Rajnandgaon when it was still in Uttar Pradesh. 

The Congress again hopes to win the seat in 2019 after its impressive show in Assembly elections last year. The Congress won 68 seats in 90-member Legislative Assembly. 

The BJP, which had won all but one of the 11 Lok Sabha seats of the state in 2014, decided to change all its candidates in 2019. It has fielded Santosh Pandey against Congress' Bholaram Saiiu.

The BSP has fielded Ravita Lakra from here. 

Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency comprises eight legislative assembly segments: Pandariya, Kawardha, Khairagarh, Dongargarh (SC), Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, Khujji and Mohla-Manpur (ST).

The polling on this seat will be held in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 18. three constituencies Chhattisgarh's 11 Lok Sabha seats - Mahasamund, Kanker(ST) and Rajnandgaon - will go to polls in the second phase. The results of the Lok Sabha election 2019 will be declared on May 23.
