Toppers’ parents did not pressurise them to do well

HUBBALLI: Aparna Mulgund and Shilpa Devarmani, both students of Chetan Pre-University Science College here have secured fourth and ninth ranks in the pre-university exam in the state.
While Aparna has scored 591 out 600 marks (Physics- 100, Chemistry- 100, Mathematics-100, Biology 99, English 94 and Kannada-98), her classmate Shilpa has scored 586 marks (Physics- 98, Chemistry- 99, Mathematics-99, Biology 99, English 96 and Kannada -95).

“I am happy that I got the marks that I was expecting,” said Aparna and added that she used to dedicate two-three hours daily for studies. “I never burnt the midnight oil for studies. Instead, I regularly slept by 11pm and woke up at 6am to study,” she said. Aparna said she did not attend any private tuitions and did not depend heavily on the internet. Instead, she relied on textbooks and other related books at the college library.

Both want to be doctors

Aparna’s parents Achut Mulgund and Anita said their daughter was not under stress did her work regularly. “Aparna wants to become a doctor and we will fulfil her dream,” they said.

Shilpa too wants to be a doctor. “I did not go for tuitions too as they are tiresome. I did not have a fixed timing to study, but made sure I used to revise everything that was taught in classes on the same day itself,” she said.

Both the students said they were not under any pressure from their parents to perform, which helped them to excel. They also thanked the college management and staff for their support and guidance.

Principle Sujata Dhadoti said the college has been producing PU toppers every year.


V A Valasang, the president of DVEA Trust which runs the college said the college offering some free seats to wards of farmers and Army professionals but the students need to clear a screening exam.


The institute’s founder secretary Mahesh Dyavappanavar said the college had recently organised a scholarship exam in which six students have cleared it with above 47% and they would be offered a free seat.
