KOLKATA: Vinod fires at Romeo, who ducks and throws a beer bottle back. This isn’t a clip from a film but a real-life fight between two neighbours in Tiljala that took place early on Sunday. The fight, however, had been started by the wives of these two men after one of them threw dirty water on the road outside the other’s house.
Around 3am on Sunday, a group of anti-socials stormed Tarikhana Road near Bondel Gate flyover and fired two rounds aimed at the first floor home of Romeo Rai. According to cops, the families of Vinod and Romeo had a history of getting into arguments and fights with one another. On Sunday, someone from Romeo’s family reportedly spewed gurgled water on the road from the first-floor balcony. Vinod’s wife, who had come out of her house at that time, started an argument with those in the other house.
Later on, Vinod allegedly returned to the area and shot at Romeo who was standing in the balcony. The police are now looking for Vinod and have arrested his brother Jeevot. The cops said they have found some gunpowder in a cattle shed owned by Vinod’s family and were probing how they got a gun.
According to Romeo’s brother Vijay, he was the one who had spewed the water from the balcony into a drain below when Vinod came out and claimed the water fell on him.
“Vinod threw a beer bottle aiming at our house. The bottle hit the balcony and the glass shards barely missed my 18-month-old son who was sleeping on the bed. I ran out as Vinod and his brother Jeevot began hurling abuses in our direction. I threw a beer bottle back at them and a fight ensued. The women from both our houses also got involved in the brawl. We were then taken to the police station,” said Vijay, a taxi driver. Romeo also drives the same taxi.
“While we were at the police station, Vinod came back and fired two rounds at Romeo, which missed him,” said Vijay.
Vinod’s family members, however, alleged that Romeo and Vijay had fired at Vinod at first and were now framing him.
